CBP seizes hidden arms cache at Texas border crossing destined for Mexico

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents intercepted a significant cache of firearms and ammunition destined for Mexico at the Presidio, Texas border crossing. The illegal items were discovered concealed within a 2013 Nissan X-Trail during a southbound inspection on July 6.

The driver, identified as a lawful permanent resident of the United States and a Mexican citizen, was apprehended. CBP utilized non-intrusive inspection technology, which detected anomalies in the vehicle, leading agents to discover hidden compartments containing the weapons. The CBP stated that the seized firearms were subsequently destroyed.

The driver faces charges for smuggling goods and firearms trafficking under Title 18 of the U.S. Code. This interdiction is part of a broader commitment by U.S. authorities to prevent the illegal flow of weapons into Mexico and to disrupt the arming of dangerous criminal organizations. The CBP highlighted its ongoing collaboration with Mexican authorities to dismantle transnational organized crime.

This operation underscores the continued cooperation between the United States and Mexico on border security. A joint statement from September 2025 established a high-level working group to address mutual commitments, including combating cartels, enhancing border security, and countering illicit activities such as drug and arms trafficking, financial flows, and fuel theft.
