CDD calls for restrictions on election research to be removed

The Centre for Democracy and Dialogue is calling for Fiji to stop criminalising legitimate election research. Its executive director, Nilesh Lal, says current electoral laws could expose people conducting election-related research to criminal sanctions.

Lal says the organisation recently submitted its methodology for an opinion poll to the Electoral Commission. A lengthy response from the commission delayed the group’s efforts to conduct the research.
