The incident has drawn sharp criticism from the Health Sector of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, which decries the "tragic and structural understaffing" plaguing the nation's hospitals. The party highlighted that the area had been recently refurbished in the presence of Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis. SYRIZA accuses the ministry's leadership of investing in "communication stunts and photo opportunities" rather than ensuring the fundamental safety of the National Health System's infrastructure. The party's statement contrasted the current government's approach with their own tenure from 2015 to 2019. They asserted that despite severe fiscal constraints during that period, their administration made efforts to maintain the functionality of the public health system. The statement read, "What happened at Corinth Hospital, with the roof collapsing just a week after Mr. Georgiadis's smiles and ribbon cuttings, encapsulates the reality we are living: a government staging communication shows while the public health system disintegrates." SYRIZA emphasized that the problem extends beyond crumbling walls, pointing to critical understaffing in various hospital departments, including emergency rooms and intensive care units, leading to a shortage of essential medical personnel. They noted that remaining healthcare workers are facing extreme exhaustion from long shifts and unpaid overtime, resulting in mass resignations. Instead of filling thousands of vacant positions with permanent hires, the Ministry of Health, according to SYRIZA, opts for publicity stunts. The party demanded immediate, substantial reinforcement of the public health system through permanent staffing, improved working conditions, and secure infrastructure for both patients and employees, stating, "Health is a fundamental right, not an occasion for public relations."
