Central Java Nutrition Program Faces Hygiene Certification Gaps

Central Java is facing a significant challenge in ensuring food safety for its Free Nutritious Meal program, with a substantial number of nutrition service units (SPPG) failing to meet essential hygiene and sanitation standards. Out of 4,060 operational SPPGs in the province, 715 have not obtained the required "Sertifikat Laik Higiene Sanitasi" (SLHS), a crucial hygiene and sanitation certificate.

This revelation came during a coordination meeting led by Vice Governor Taj Yasin on Friday. He highlighted that while Central Java has 4,635 SPPGs in total, only 4,060 are currently operational. The lack of certification for these units raises concerns about the safety of the meals provided.

Furthermore, the program faces a shortage of certified chefs. Yasin noted that only 1,310 chefs across Central Java have received certification, a figure representing approximately 30% of the necessary personnel. He stressed that President's instructions mandate strict adherence to requirements and certification for all SPPGs to guarantee the safety of the food served.

Yasin urged for improved compliance, emphasizing that certification is a key part of ensuring food safety for the "Makan Bergizi Gratis" (MBG) program. The vice governor's remarks underscore the need for immediate action to address these gaps and ensure the integrity of the nutrition program for the region's beneficiaries.
