Central Java Nutrition Units Idle Amid Funding Delays, Evaluations

Several nutrition service units (SPPG) in Indonesia's Central Java province have ceased operations, with the regional government awaiting clarification on the exact number affected. Vice Governor Taj Yasin Maimoen confirmed that some SPPGs are not functioning due to ongoing evaluations and pending fund disbursements from the National Nutrition Agency (BGN).

Maimoen, who also chairs the Central Java MBG Task Force, stated that the BGN is undergoing changes, necessitating adherence to new protocols. While he lacks precise figures on the non-operational SPPGs, he acknowledged that funding delays are not the sole reason, as some are also undergoing evaluation. The provincial government is uncertain if beneficiaries of the non-operational SPPGs are receiving provisions from other units. Reports indicate that dozens of SPPGs in Central Java are affected. In Purworejo, 12 SPPGs temporarily halted operations while awaiting funding top-ups from the BGN. Similarly, five SPPGs in Magelang stopped operating on Monday, June 8, 2026, after the BGN suspended operational fund disbursements indefinitely. In Surakarta, 20 SPPGs also ceased operations on the same day due to the BGN's failure to disburse funds. Several other SPPGs across Central Java remain non-operational pending funding from the BGN.
