Central states reinforce security strategy; will prioritize combating homicides, extortion, and transport theft

Central Mexican states are intensifying their security strategies, focusing on reducing homicides, extortion, and transport-related crime through enhanced intelligence work. This coordinated approach was a key outcome of the Interstate Meeting for Peace and Security held in Tecámac, State of Mexico.

The meeting, presided over by the Governor of the State of Mexico, Delfina Gómez Álvarez, brought together governors from Mexico City, Guerrero, and Morelos, as well as representatives from Hidalgo, Puebla, Querétaro, and Tlaxcala. Federal security officials, including representatives from the National Guard, the Secretariat of National Defense, and the Secretariat of the Navy, also participated, underscoring the federal government's commitment to the initiative.

Governor Gómez Álvarez highlighted the importance of this interstate collaboration, emphasizing that it aligns with the directives of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. She noted that the State of Mexico has already achieved notable successes in crime reduction, reporting a 58% decrease in homicides and nearly a 60% reduction in vehicle theft. These achievements, she stated, are a direct result of strengthened coordination and intelligence-led operations.

The discussions also included strengthening the legal framework and reviewing the conditions and supervision of the 200 penitentiaries within the participating states. The focus remains on building peace and ensuring the well-being of citizens across the central region through unified security efforts.
