Centuries-Old Relics of the Prophet Muhammad Traced from Yanbu to Al-Hussein Mosque

The revered relics attributed to Prophet Muhammad have a storied past, tracing a centuries-long journey from Yanbu to their current home in the Al-Hussein Mosque in Egypt. Sheikh Ayman Mansour, Imam of Al-Hussein Mosque, shared the historical narratives surrounding these significant artifacts.

According to some historical accounts, these relics were initially held by the descendants of Ibrahim in Yanbu. They remained in the possession of these families, passed down through generations, until their eventual transfer to Egypt during the era of Sultan Baibars. The acquisition was facilitated by the Egyptian minister, Al-Saaheb Taj al-Din, who purchased the relics and established a dedicated facility for them in Old Cairo, known as "Ribat Al-Athar" or "Athar Al-Nabi."

Over time, the relics were moved to several other significant locations. They were housed in a dome built by Sultan Qansuh al-Ghawri in the 10th century Hijri, remaining there for over three centuries. The journey continued to the mosque of Sayyida Zainab, then to the treasury in the Citadel, followed by the General Awqaf Department, and eventually to Saray Abdeen.

Finally, the relics found their permanent resting place in Al-Hussein Mosque. The dedicated chamber for these sacred items was constructed by Khedive Abbas Helmy II in the month of Rabi' al-Awwal in 1311 Hijri, ensuring their preservation and accessibility.
