Centuries-Old Yachts Gather for RICHARD MILLE Cup in Scotland

The 2026 RICHARD MILLE Cup classic yacht race recently concluded, drawing global attention to the sport of classic sailing. This third iteration of the international event celebrated maritime history, craftsmanship, and sustainability by gathering centuries-old yachts and elite sailors in Scotland's Firth of Clyde.

The competition, held from June 15 to 25, marked its first time in Scotland, with the opening ceremony at the historic Castle Culzean paying tribute to legendary Scottish shipbuilders William Fife II and William Fife III. The event saw the return of iconic vessels like the 1911 Mariquita, the 1903 Moonbeam, and the 1920 Moonbeam IV, alongside others such as Saskia and Kismet. These yachts, some over a century old, represented a generational legacy of nautical engineering and brought the golden age of sailing back to British waters.

Twelve classic yachts competed across four divisions, engaging in a mix of coastal and long-distance races around the Cumbrae islands. These challenges tested the sailors' skills, requiring constant strategic adjustments based on wind, currents, and sea conditions, highlighting the sport's demands for teamwork, judgment, and adaptability.
