Cerro Porteño call up separated players as Gustavo Costas brings back a regular

Gustavo Costas has recalled three players who had been pushed to the margins of Cerro Porteño's squad, bringing them back into the group for the Clausura match against Recoleta FC.

Defender Abel Luciatti and midfielders Cristian Paredes and Gastón Giménez were included among the 23 players selected for the eighth round of Paraguay's 2026 Clausura tournament. All three had trained separately under former coach Ariel Holan, although they had not ended their contracts with the club.

The match will be Costas' second in charge. The Argentine coach began his tenure with a 1-1 draw against Libertad at La Nueva Olla. The squad also includes the return of a regular starter, although the report does not identify that player by name.

The three players have seen little action this year. Giménez has played five matches, all in the Apertura, with his last appearance coming on March 21 in a 3-2 match against Libertad. Paredes has made 10 appearances, nine in the Apertura and one in the Copa Libertadores, last playing on May 15 in a 3-1 match against Sportivo Trinidense. Luciatti has played five times, including four Apertura matches and one Copa Libertadores game, most recently on May 24 in a 2-0 match against Rubio Ñu.
