Cerro Porteño Welcomes Ariel Gamarra

Cerro Porteño has officially welcomed Paraguayan midfielder Ariel Gamarra to its squad for the second half of the season. The 21-year-old midfielder, born in Asunción on February 26, 2003, began his professional career at Argentinos Juniors in Argentina before moving to Mexican club Puebla, where he played between 2025 and early 2026.

Gamarra brings experience from 74 professional appearances, though he has yet to score a goal. He is described as a "midfielder of balance," suggesting his role may focus more on defensive contributions and playmaking rather than goal-scoring.

He is one of eight new additions to the Cerro Porteño roster for the Clausura 2026 championship, which kicks off this weekend. The club will also compete in the ongoing Copa Paraguay and the Copa Libertadores. Other notable signings include Agustín Almendra, Lucas Merolla, Alexis Cañete, Iván Ramírez, Manuel Roffo, Ángel Martínez, and Derlis Rodríguez.

Cerro Porteño's first match in the Clausura will be against Trinidense at home in La Nueva Olla on Friday at 18:30. The team also faces a significant challenge in the Copa Libertadores, with the Round of 16 series against Palmeiras scheduled for August 12 and 19, with the initial leg taking place in Brazil.
