Çeşme Municipality Launches New Social Support Projects

Çeşme’s municipal council has moved ahead with new support measures for stray animals, older residents and university students at its September meeting.

The council approved cooperation between Çeşme Municipality and the Union of Turkish Municipalities under a project to establish a pet-food production machinery facility. It also authorised Mayor Lâl Denizli to cooperate with the Bridge To Türkiye Fund on an animal rehabilitation centre.

Denizli said the donor institution would oversee construction and that no donation would be transferred to the municipality. Once completed, the hospital, accommodation areas, paddocks and green spaces would be handed over to the municipality on a turnkey basis. She said the architectural and technical drawings had been completed and that the public would receive detailed information about the project.

The council also authorised a cooperation protocol between the municipality and the Ege Geriatrics Association for an “Ege Third Age University.” The lifelong-learning project aims to help older residents take a more active role in social, cultural and academic life.

Another decision will provide education support to residents of Çeşme who enter university for the first time in the 2026-2027 academic year. The council also addressed the reorganisation of specialist committees after 13 members left the CHP for the YENİ Party. Denizli said the committees should work more actively and functionally, and urged all political representatives to develop projects and proposals together.

At the meeting’s opening, Denizli assessed the summer season. She said economic conditions had been difficult, especially for shopkeepers, while hotel occupancy in Çeşme presented a positive picture. She said the municipality would evaluate the season’s performance using data and had received both positive and negative feedback from shopkeepers.
