Chamorro Wins Tight Colorado Party Primary in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay

Rigoberto Chamorro has emerged victorious in a tightly contested internal election for the Colorado Party in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay. Representing the Lista 2R "Honor Colorado R," Chamorro narrowly defeated Magno Álvarez of the Lista 2A "Honor Colorado A," securing his party's nomination for the upcoming municipal elections in October.

The race was exceptionally close, with Chamorro garnering 14,018 votes (37.86%) compared to Álvarez's 13,898 votes (37.54%). The decisive margin of just 120 votes underscores the intense competition within the party.

This win significantly bolsters the political faction associated with Alto Paraná Governor César “Landy” Torres. Torres was a key proponent of Chamorro's candidacy and his influence in regional leadership is strengthened by this outcome, particularly in his ongoing power struggle with the influential Zacarías Irún family, who had backed Álvarez.

Other candidates in the race included Gustavo Ovelar of Lista 6 "Colorado Añetete," who received 3,532 votes (9.54%), and Richar Alfonso of Lista 4 "Fuerza Republicana," with 3,106 votes (8.39%). Jorge “Koki” Cabrera, Marcos Osorio, and Delio Sinecio Fernández Silva followed with considerably fewer votes.
