Chang San-cheng to send campaign chief to register, while Huang Shih-chieh will register in person and issue an open letter

Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-cheng will not personally register his candidacy for a second term. Instead, his campaign chairman Huang Min-kung and Legislator Tu Chuan-chi will handle the procedure on September 1 at 10 a.m.

Chang’s aides said the mayor is treating registration as a routine electoral formality. They said he wants to give priority to city administration and avoid allowing the campaign to interfere with municipal work.

Huang Min-kung, a former deputy county magistrate and acting county magistrate, has played a central role in the Kuomintang’s Taoyuan campaigns. The report describes him as a key party strategist with a record of supporting successful campaigns, including Chang’s election and the victories of six KMT legislators. Tu Chuan-chi, who will accompany him, defeated Huang Shih-chieh by more than 1,000 votes in the 2022 legislative election.

Huang Shih-chieh, the DPP’s Taoyuan mayoral candidate, plans to register at the Taoyuan Election Commission on September 2. Campaign officials, Taoyuan councilors and council candidates are expected to accompany him. He will issue campaign remarks, present new policy proposals and take part in an event focused on the concerns of the city’s 13 administrative districts. His campaign also plans a motorcade street campaign after registration, presenting his message that a new mayor should get Taoyuan moving again.
