Chaos and violence erupt after Dominican parade in Upper Manhattan

Celebrations following New York's National Dominican Parade in Upper Manhattan turned violent, marring the display of national pride. Hundreds gathered to honor their heritage, but the event concluded with scenes of chaos, litter, and assaults on the streets of Manhattan.

The aftermath saw police make two arrests following the stabbing of a 19-year-old man, who was reportedly attacked multiple times in the back and chest after an altercation near Bryant Park. The victim was hospitalized in stable condition. Later, around midnight, another stabbing occurred on Nagle Avenue, where two 23-year-old men were attacked. One of the victims sustained a fatal stab wound to the abdomen, while the other survived a chest wound.

Videos shared on social media depicted a stark contrast between the earlier parade and the subsequent disorder. Images showed young attendees dancing on cars, with one video capturing a damaged BMW, its rear window shattered and windshield broken. Another clip showed police intervening with two young men in a parked car on Dyckman Street, met with jeers from onlookers, many draped in Dominican flags.

The New York Police Department had deployed a significant number of officers to manage the event, with barricades erected in areas like Dyckman Street in anticipation of large crowds. Despite calls for maintaining safe and peaceful streets, the celebrations ultimately gave way to public disturbances and violence, overshadowing the cultural event.
