This incident follows similar reports of significant congestion at Tivat Airport earlier in August. The situation at Malpensa appears to be a consequence of the busy travel period surrounding Ferragosto, a significant Italian public holiday celebrated on August 15. For many Italians, this date marks the beginning of an extended vacation period, leading to a mass exodus from cities to coastal or rural destinations.
