Six new novels arrive for the end of summer from publisher Hena com

Croatian publisher Hena com is marking the end of summer with the release of six new novels, offering a diverse literary selection for readers. The collection features works from acclaimed international authors alongside new novels by domestic Croatian writers, promising a range of stories and perspectives.

Among the new titles is Roisín O’Donnell's "The Nest" (Gnijezdo), translated from English by Maja Ručević Karanović. This novel, which won the An Post Irish Book Award for Novel of the Year in 2025, delves into themes of fear, insecurity, and a woman's struggle to protect her children and break free from violence. O'Donnell, an award-winning Irish writer, is known for her short stories.

Magda Szabó's "Abigél," translated from Hungarian by Lea Kovács, is set during the final years of World War II. The story follows fifteen-year-old Gina Vitay, sent to a strict boarding school, exploring themes of friendship, sacrifice, morality, rebellion, courage, and heroism. Szabó, a celebrated Hungarian author, is known for classics like "The Door."

Jessica Lind's "Little Monsters" (Mala čudovišta), translated from German by Dalibor Joler, examines parenthood, memory, and the destructive power of unspoken truths through the story of Pia and Jakob, whose son is involved in an incident at school. Lind is an Austrian writer and screenwriter.

Ferdia Lennon's "The Glorious Deeds" (Slavni podvizi), translated from English by Mišo Grundler, is set in 412 BC after a failed Athenian military expedition. The novel blends ancient tragedy with Irish humor, exploring art, friendship, community, and hope.

Rounding out the selection are "La petite Marie" by Vjekoslava Huljić and "The Course of Reincarnation" (Tečaj reinkarnacije) by Vlado Simčić Vava, further broadening the literary offerings from Hena com.
