Charges Against Former TH COO Adjourned to Sept. 24

Proceedings against former Lembaga Tabung Haji chief operating officer Datuk Adi Azuan Abdul Ghani have been postponed to Sept. 24 after he was hospitalized with a heart condition.

The charges had been scheduled at the Shah Alam Sessions Court. Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud set the new date after being told that Adi Azuan was receiving treatment at the University of Malaya Medical Centre.

The judge said it would not be practical for the court to travel to the hospital to read the charges. “I think the proper thing for the court to do is to allow the accused to rest in hospital and set the next date,” he said.

Defense lawyer Wan Azwan Aiman Wan Fakhruddin told the court that his client had been admitted since Aug. 31 and needed several rounds of electrocardiogram monitoring. A letter from a senior consultant cardiologist stated that Adi Azuan had acute coronary syndrome requiring ECG monitoring.

I was informed that the accused could not attend because he was receiving heart treatment.

The judge called Adi Azuan’s wife, Datin Zureen Zainuddin, to provide further information about his condition. She said he was undergoing an angiogram because the chest pain he had experienced had become more frequent over the previous week.

Adi Azuan is among those detained, investigated and charged in court following the Royal Commission of Inquiry report on Lembaga Tabung Haji.
