Charis Giannopoulos' emotional farewell from active play: 'I feel this chapter has been fulfilled'

After a distinguished career spanning nearly two decades, Greek basketball player Charis Giannopoulos has announced his retirement from professional play. The 37-year-old forward shared his emotional farewell to the sport he dedicated his life to through a heartfelt video posted on social media.

Giannopoulos leaves the game with a rich legacy, having played for some of Greece's most prominent basketball clubs. Notably, he is one of the few players to have represented all three giants of Greek basketball: Panathinaikos, Olympiacos, and AEK. His career also included stints with other significant teams such as PAOK, Panionios, Peristeri, Rethymno, Promitheas Patras, Kolossos Rodou, and Maroussi, where he spent the last three years of his playing days.

His professional journey extended beyond Greece's borders, with valuable experience gained in Spain playing for Obradoiro and Manresa. These experiences provided him with significant exposure to one of Europe's top basketball leagues. Reflecting on his decision, Giannopoulos expressed gratitude for the journey, stating, "Thank you for the wins, the losses, the lessons I learned, and the people you brought into my life. I feel like this chapter has been fulfilled. I gave everything I had, on every court I stepped on, with every jersey I wore. I will miss you so much, but it's time to let you go."
