ChatGPT to Launch Ads in Over 30 European Countries

OpenAI, the developer of the artificial intelligence application ChatGPT, is set to introduce advertisements within its service across 31 European countries. The company announced this move in a press release, stating that ChatGPT Ads will commence operations on August 24. The rollout will include countries such as Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Austria, among others.

The press release did not specify whether advertisements will be displayed in Finland. An example provided by OpenAI shows a scenario where, after a user asks for a recommendation on a coffee machine, the AI displays a paid advertisement for a coffee machine alongside its response. OpenAI has assured that these advertisements will be clearly marked and kept separate from the AI's generated answers. The advertising system will also allow for features like geographical targeting.

This initiative follows a pilot program that OpenAI launched in the United States in February to test advertising within ChatGPT. The company has previously stated that advertisements would be accessible to users of both the free version of ChatGPT and those subscribed to its 'go' package.
