‘Checo’ Pérez: ‘I think we did a good job with what we had today’

Sergio Pérez will start Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix from 17th on the grid, but the Mexican driver said Cadillac made the most of its performance at Monza.

The 36-year-old Guadalajara native said the team had “good race pace,” which he identified as the most important factor ahead of the race. Cadillac’s main goal, he said, would be to keep moving forward.

Pérez has six Formula One victories and 39 podium finishes. He has reached the podium at Monza twice, finishing second in 2012 with Sauber and repeating that result three years ago with Red Bull.

“Having a positive tone and attitude can make a difference, and I think we managed those kinds of things well today,” said Pérez, who finished runner-up in the world championship three years ago. He added that the team would focus on taking every opportunity available on Sunday.
