Cheese snack ends in clinical death for Kazakh man

A man in Kazakhstan was revived by paramedics after falling into clinical death due to choking on chechil cheese. The emergency call came from the village of Beskol in the Kyzylzhar District, reporting a man who was suffocating.

Upon arrival, the ambulance paramedic team, consisting of Aidar Omarov, Pavel Kuzurman, and driver Bakhyt Valeyev, found the patient already in clinical death, with no pulse detected on the ECG monitor. The medical team immediately initiated resuscitation procedures in line with Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) standards. They performed chest compressions, connected the patient to a ventilator, and administered adrenaline intravenously.

During a direct laryngoscopy, the paramedics discovered and removed a foreign object from the patient's airway – a piece of chechil cheese. Following the removal of the obstruction, the patient's pulse returned in the carotid arteries. However, he remained unconscious and was not breathing independently.

Post-resuscitation measures were carried out, including securing the airway with an endotracheal tube, continuing artificial ventilation, and administering further medication. While being transported to the hospital, the patient began breathing on his own. He was admitted to the Kyzylzhar District Hospital with a state described as 'mild obtundation.' Currently, his condition is stable, and there is no threat to his life or health.

The press service of the North Kazakhstan Regional Emergency Medical Center highlighted the qualifications of the medical staff involved. Aidar Omarov is a national championship prize-winner for ambulance crews, Pavel Kuzurman has completed international training in BLS, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, and NRP standards, and Bakhyt Valeyev is actively involved in emergency patient care. The center emphasized their employees' dedication and skill in handling critical situations.
