Chelsea advances in League Cup with 2-0 win over Luton Town

Chelsea has progressed to the third round of the English League Cup after defeating Luton Town 2-0 at home.

The match saw the debut of new Chelsea signings Valentin Barco and Danny Welbeck. Manager Xabi Alonso also opted not to include Enzo Fernandez in the squad, amidst ongoing speculation about his potential departure. Luton Town, having played four league matches in 15 days, made significant changes to their lineup.

Despite numerous chances in the first half, Chelsea struggled to break the deadlock. Goalkeeper Keeley denied Cole Palmer twice, and also saved a shot from Reece James. Estevao had a close-range effort go wide, and another shot from Rogers hit the crossbar.

Chelsea finally broke through in the second half. Danny Welbeck scored his first goal for the club with a header from a cross by Gusto in the 51st minute. Cole Palmer's shot narrowly missed the target in the 64th minute, while Kasey Palmer's effort for Luton Town went wide shortly after.

The second goal came in the 79th minute when Estevao's shot deflected off Luton defender Hakeem Odoffin into the net. Gittens' late shot in added time also struck the post. Chelsea will now face Leeds United in the next round of the competition.
