Chelsea sign England midfielder Henderson from Brentford

Chelsea has secured the signing of experienced midfielder Jordan Henderson on a two-year contract, following his departure from Brentford. The Premier League club announced the transfer on Monday, with the 36-year-old joining on a free transfer after making 34 appearances for Brentford last season. This move earned him a place in England's World Cup squad.

Henderson, who came through Sunderland's academy before a successful 12-season spell at Liverpool where he captained the team to a Premier League title in 2020, expressed his enthusiasm for the move. "Given the size of the club, the manager, who I have great admiration for, and the quality of the players, this was a huge opportunity I couldn’t turn down," Henderson stated in a release. "I was also so impressed with how much the ownership want Chelsea to be successful and move in the right direction."

His career has seen him play for Liverpool, Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq, Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam, and most recently Brentford. Henderson played only six minutes at this year's World Cup before suffering a broken arm. He is new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso's second English signing of the transfer window, following the acquisition of Morgan Rogers.

Chelsea, who finished 10th in the Premier League last season, are set to begin their new campaign against local rivals Fulham on August 24.
