Chelsea to sign Morgan Rogers for record fee

Chelsea is set to break its transfer record by signing English international Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for a staggering 117 million pounds (1.5 billion kroner).

The deal, reported by multiple media outlets including the BBC and The Athletic, not only sets a new benchmark for Chelsea but also establishes a new record for the highest fee ever paid for an English player. This surpasses the 116 million pounds Manchester City paid for Elliot Anderson earlier this summer. Chelsea's previous record signing was Enzo Fernandez, who joined the club for 107 million pounds in 2023.

The 23-year-old Rogers is expected to undergo his medical examination on Monday, immediately after returning from the World Cup. He is slated to sign a six-year contract, with an option for an additional year. Rogers previously played for Manchester City, who loaned him out to several clubs before Aston Villa acquired him in 2024.

Rogers has featured in six of England's seven World Cup matches this summer. Notably, in the quarter-final against Norway, his long-range shot forced a rebound that Jude Bellingham converted for England's winning goal.
