Chen Tang Jie-Clarissa San advance at Taiwan Open; two other Malaysian pairs eliminated

Malaysian mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie and Clarissa San have secured a spot in the second round of the Taiwan Open Badminton Championships, marking a positive start for the duo. Despite being pushed to their limits, they overcame Indonesian opponents Renaldi Samosir and Masita Mahmudin with a score of 21-19, 18-21, 22-20 in a hard-fought match that lasted just over an hour.

The world No. 172 ranked pair, who were competing against each other for the first time, now hold a 1-0 lead in their head-to-head record. In the upcoming second round, Chen Tang Jie and Clarissa San are set to face the formidable Thai pair Ruttanapak Oupthong and Jhenicha Sudjaiprap, who are ranked 21st in the world.

However, the tournament has seen the early exit of two other Malaysian mixed doubles pairs. Jimmy Wong and Cheng Su Yin, who recently reached the quarterfinals of the Japan Open, could not maintain their form and lost to Japan's Yuta Watanabe and Maya Taguchi (world No. 19) in straight games, 21-5, 21-17. Similarly, the world No. 108 pair Wee Yee Hern and Vanee Gobi were defeated by Japan's Akira Koga and Natsu Saito (world No. 22) with a score of 21-15, 21-16.

Despite these setbacks, Malaysia still has 14 representatives scheduled to compete in various singles and doubles events on the following day, hoping to advance further in the Super 300 tournament.
