Cheng Chao-fang proposes adding 2 comprehensive high schools to solve school place shortage; Cheng Ying-yao: Support local good policies

Hsinchu County mayoral candidate Cheng Chao-fang has proposed the establishment of two new comprehensive high schools to tackle the ongoing shortage of school places, particularly at the high school level. Speaking at a policy briefing, Cheng highlighted that despite recent efforts to increase capacity, a deficit of approximately 600 places remains, and this trend is expected to continue for at least the next decade due to population growth in the greater Hsinchu area.

Cheng emphasized that the region's population continues to expand, necessitating a proactive approach to educational infrastructure. He argued that relying solely on national trends of declining birth rates would be insufficient. Beyond high school enrollment, Cheng also outlined plans to improve early childhood education, enhance early intervention services for children with special needs, and reduce administrative burdens on teachers to allow them more time for instruction and student care.

Education Minister Cheng Ying-yao responded positively to the proposal, affirming that the central government supports sound local educational policies. He noted that the Ministry of Education has already invested significantly in expanding educational capacity in the Hsinchu region, including building new schools and classrooms. The minister stressed that educational development and talent cultivation transcend political divides, aligning with the candidate's vision for a sustainable, ecological, and family-friendly Hsinchu.
