New Taipei mayoral candidate Su Chiao-hui launches Yunlin support group, proposes 'Yunlin Day' and AI cooperation

New Taipei City mayoral candidate Su Chiao-hui launched a support group for the large Yunlin County diaspora residing in the city, pledging to promote her hometown's agricultural products and foster technological collaboration.

Su, a legislator from the Democratic Progressive Party, announced her intention to establish a "Yunlin Day" in New Taipei if elected mayor. This initiative aims to market Yunlin's agricultural and specialty products within the metropolitan area, thereby supporting the county's industries. "Yunlin is Taiwan's land of fish and rice," Su stated, highlighting the region's rich agricultural output.

Beyond agriculture, Su and fellow legislator Liu Chien-kuo are advocating for the development of the AI industry in Yunlin. They propose focusing on drones, robotics, and smart agriculture, leveraging the strengths of both Yunlin's national universities and New Taipei's technological education programs. This collaboration would allow for exchanges between schools and industries in both regions.

Su acknowledged the strong sense of identity among Yunlin natives who have moved to New Taipei for work. She described New Taipei as the "new hometown for people who have left home" and emphasized the role of the support group in providing mutual assistance and warmth. She also expressed a desire for these successful individuals to give back to their hometown and maintain strong ties with their roots.

Su outlined six major welfare policies, covering everything from elder care to children's nutrition, and also presented plans for industrial development in various New Taipei districts. She aims to transform these areas into industrial hubs, expanding the scope of cooperation beyond traditional sectors to include advanced technology and smart agriculture.
