Cherry Prices Plummet in Kaunas Market

Shoppers in Kaunas are enjoying a significant drop in cherry prices, with some vendors at the "Dainava" market selling them for just three euros per kilogram over the weekend. This marks a substantial decrease from the 4.50 euros per kilogram charged just a week earlier, on July 11.

Even lower prices were found on Kovo 11-osios Street, where a kiosk near the "Turgavietė" bus stop offered a kilogram of sweet cherries for a mere 2.80 euros on Saturday. This price point is described as "record-breakingly low."

Last summer, Kaunas residents had to pay at least 4.50 euros per kilogram for cherries during the same period in mid-July. The cheapest cherries in 2025 were available in early September for three euros, but they were not as flavorful or juicy as those found in mid-summer.

While significantly cheaper options are available, some vendors in Kaunas continue to sell cherries for higher prices, ranging from 4.50 to 6 euros per kilogram. Meanwhile, blueberries have also seen a slight price reduction, costing six euros per kilogram at the "Dainava" market this past weekend. Last year, blueberries were a euro more expensive in mid-July, and two years ago, they were considerably cheaper at four euros.
