Chhattisgarh CM Announces DSP Post for Commonwealth Games Silver Medalist Gyaneshwari Yadav

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has announced an out-of-turn promotion to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and a cash reward of ₹30 lakh for weightlifter Gyaneshwari Yadav. The 23-year-old athlete secured a silver medal in the women's 53kg event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 held in Glasgow, Scotland.

Sai stated that this decision aims to honor Yadav's significant achievement and to serve as a powerful motivator for other athletes within Chhattisgarh to strive for excellence on the international stage. He emphasized the government's commitment to fostering sports development through modern infrastructure, quality coaching, and comprehensive support for talented individuals.

The decision was aimed at recognising her achievement and motivating other athletes to excel at the highest level.

Yadav, who hails from Rajnandgaon district, previously won a bronze medal at the Asian Weightlifting Championships. She was appointed as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in the Chhattisgarh police in August 2023. The Chief Minister highlighted her journey as an inspiration, particularly for young girls across the state, reinforcing the government's goal of creating an ecosystem where promising athletes can realize their full potential.

During her felicitation at the Chief Minister's residence, Yadav was accompanied by her parents. The CM reiterated the state government's dedication to sports, aiming to enable every promising sportsperson from Chhattisgarh to compete successfully at both national and international events.
