Chiapas Congress Elects Marcela Castillo Atristain as New Board President

The Congress of Chiapas has elected Marcela Castillo Atristain, a deputy from the ruling Morena party, as the new president of its Board of Directors. Atristain will hold this significant leadership position for the state legislature during the period from August 24 to September 30, 2026.

Her appointment follows the departure of Alejandra Gómez Mendoza, who also belongs to the Morena party. Gómez Mendoza has transitioned to a new role as the director of the State Roads Commission. The change in leadership occurred during an extraordinary session of the 69th Legislature.

The legislature formally approved Gómez Mendoza's request for indefinite leave from her deputy position representing the XII district, which includes the municipality of Pichucalco. Following this, Marcela Castillo Atristain took the oath of office, officially assuming her new responsibilities as president of the Board of Directors.

This leadership change within the Chiapas Congress is part of the regular legislative cycle, ensuring the continuity of the body's functions. Atristain's term will span a specific period, during which she will represent the Congress and oversee its administrative and procedural matters.
