Chiba Prefecture Convenes Disaster Meeting After Severe Rainfall Causes Fatalities and Widespread Damage

Chiba Prefecture is convening a disaster response headquarters meeting at 8 a.m. following extensive damage caused by heavy rainfall.

Governor Kentesu will lead prefecture officials in assessing the extent of the damage across the region and deliberating on the support measures required. The severe weather has led to multiple fatalities, injuries, and significant infrastructure disruptions.

As of early morning, reports indicate two deaths, one person in cardiac arrest, and another unconscious due to the flooding. In Sakura City, a taxi submerged with a woman inside resulted in one person losing consciousness. Narita Airport is experiencing major disruptions, with approximately 7,000 people stranded in terminals due to the suspension of train and bus services.

Power outages are affecting around 25,800 households. In Yachiyo City, a man was found deceased on a flooded street. The prefecture had issued special warnings for heavy rain and landslides, urging residents to take life-saving actions. Approximately 1,800 people spent the night at the Chiba Prefectural Government building due to difficulties returning home.
