Chicago Fire FC Stadium Construction Advances: $750 Million, Downtown Location, and Boat Access

Construction is underway for McDonald's Park, the new home of Chicago Fire FC, a $750 million open-air stadium located in the city's South Loop.

The project, which broke ground on March 3, 2026, is situated on a 62-acre site known as "The 78," adjacent to the Chicago River. Club owner Joe Mansueto is fully financing the stadium, ensuring no public funds are used for its construction. Mansueto stated, "This is a historic day for Chicago Fire FC and for the city we proudly call home. This stadium represents an investment and the creation of a world-class home for our fans, players, and the community."

Designed by Gensler, the stadium will feature a facade of brick, steel, and glass, paying homage to Chicago's industrial culture. It will be accessible via public transportation, with stations for the CTA's Red, Orange, and Green lines located two blocks away. Additionally, the site will be reachable by water taxi and will have a dedicated bus route.

The stadium is scheduled to open during the 2028 MLS regular season. The construction is expected to generate thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in tax revenue for Chicago. Furthermore, a partnership with McDonald's will fund the expansion of the P.L.A.Y.S. youth program, aiming to reach over 125,000 students.
