Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon, former CPA chairman Eddie Teo receive Singapore's highest civilian honor

Singapore's highest civilian honor, the Order of Temasek (With Distinction), was conferred upon Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon and Eddie Teo, former chairman of the Council of Presidential Advisers, on Sunday. They lead this year's list of National Day Awards recipients, which includes a total of 7,491 individuals recognized for their service to the nation.

Chief Justice Menon, who will retire on February 26, 2027, has served for over 14 years. During his tenure, he spearheaded significant reforms to enhance the courts' capabilities. These included leading the digital transformation of the courts and establishing the Appellate Division of the High Court, which has streamlined the process for hearing and resolving appeals. The Prime Minister's Office highlighted his role in implementing a therapeutic justice approach in the Family Justice Courts and Youth Courts, transforming how family and youth cases are handled.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong commended Chief Justice Menon's distinguished service, stating, "Under his leadership, our Judiciary has earned the confidence of Singaporeans and the respect of the international legal community." Menon's career includes practicing as an advocate, serving as a Judicial Commissioner, and holding the position of Singapore's sixth Attorney-General before becoming Chief Justice in 2012.

Eddie Teo, who had a 35-year career in the Singapore Public Service before retiring in 2005, also received the prestigious award. His extensive service includes leadership roles in the Security and Intelligence Division of the Ministry of Defence and the Internal Security Department. He later served as Singapore's High Commissioner to Australia and held two terms as chairman of the Public Service Commission. Most recently, he chaired the Council of Presidential Advisers from 2019 until his retirement on June 1, 2026. Teo currently holds positions at Singapore Management University and serves as a director of the Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship.
