Child among three killed in Russian strikes near Kyiv, says official

Russian strikes in the region surrounding the capital Kyiv on Saturday resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including a child, as confirmed by Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv regional administration. The attacks, which were recorded at three separate locations in the Boryspil district near the capital, also left three more people injured.

In the capital city itself, Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported fires in two districts following an air raid alert. Witnesses reported hearing several powerful explosions that shook the city center. The strikes underscore the ongoing conflict and its impact on civilian areas near the capital.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Serbia on Friday for his first visit to the Balkan nation. The visit is expected to center on expanding economic ties between the two countries and their respective bids for European Union membership. Zelenskyy posted a video on Telegram showing his arrival, ahead of discussions with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and other officials.

Zelenskyy stated that the talks would cover "expanding economic ties between our countries, relations with the European Union, and other things that can work for our peoples, as well as security issues." This visit could potentially strain relations between Serbia and Russia, a long-standing ally and key natural gas supplier for Serbia. Serbian President Vučić had previously indicated that EU accession bids, alongside economic and energy cooperation, would be key topics for discussion.
