Three Killed in Russian Strikes on Kyiv Region; Zelensky Visits Serbia

Three people, including a child, died and three others were injured in Russian strikes in the Brovary district, northeast of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, a regional military official reported. The attacks damaged homes and vehicles and started a fire in a non-residential building.

Kyiv's military administration issued warnings of ballistic missile threats from the north, declaring air raid alerts across the city. Residents were instructed to seek shelter as an AFP reporter heard a dozen explosions within the capital. Moscow has intensified its attacks on Kyiv in recent months, frequently employing hard-to-intercept ballistic missiles in rapid assaults.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commenced his first official visit to Serbia, aiming to discuss security and bilateral relations with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. Despite Serbia's historical ties with Russia and its refusal to impose sanctions on Moscow, Zelensky's visit seeks to strengthen economic ties and explore areas of mutual benefit.

I am sure Volodymyr Zelensky, in line with his struggle and his views, will say what he thinks about sanctions against the Russian Federation, but the Republic of Serbia set out its position four-and-a-half years ago, almost five years ago, and has not changed it since.

"We will discuss expanding economic ties between our countries, relations with the European Union, other areas that can benefit our nations, and security issues," Zelensky stated on X. Vučić, however, reiterated Serbia's long-standing position of not sanctioning Russia, a stance that has complicated Belgrade's path to EU membership. He affirmed that Serbia's position, established years ago, remains unchanged.
