Child dies in hospital after serious Co. Cavan car crash

A child who was critically injured in a car crash in County Cavan on Friday has died. The young girl was a passenger in a car that collided with a flatbed van on the R162 road at Corclare, Shercock.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency services attended to other individuals who sustained injuries in the collision. The child was transported to Temple Street Hospital following the incident, where she succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday.

This tragic incident contributes to a concerning road safety record in the state, with over 100 fatalities reported on the roads so far this year. Gardaí (Irish police) are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could assist their investigation. Specifically, they are asking for witnesses who were in the vicinity of the collision between 4:15 PM and 5:00 PM on Friday, July 24th. Gardaí also urge anyone with relevant camera footage, including dashcam recordings, from that time and location to come forward.
