Child's refusal to sit causes Canadian flight cancellation

A Porter Airlines flight from Victoria to Toronto was canceled on the evening of August 6, leaving approximately 200 passengers stranded for nearly a full day. The reason for the cancellation was an incident involving a young child, described by some as an infant and by others as too old to be held on a parent's lap during takeoff.

The toddler, traveling with an adult, reportedly refused to sit in their assigned seat or fasten their seatbelt. Despite efforts from the parents and airline staff to persuade the child, the toddler remained adamant about standing on the seat and not being secured.

The flight, PD444, was scheduled to depart at night. The refusal of the child to comply with safety regulations ultimately led to the flight's cancellation, causing significant delays for all on board. The exact age of the child has not been confirmed.

Passengers eventually reached their destination almost 24 hours after the original scheduled departure time. The incident highlights the challenges flight crews can face when passengers, especially young children, do not comply with safety protocols.
