Children invited to be 'Firefighters for a Day' in Misiones

Children in San Juan Bautista, Misiones, will have the chance to step into the boots of their local heroes this Sunday, August 23rd, during a special "Firefighters for a Day" event. Organized by the K42 Volunteer Firefighters, the initiative aims to provide a fun and educational experience for the community's youth.

The event will take place at Mariscal Estigarribia square starting at 10:00 AM. It is designed to bring the fire department closer to the community, allowing children to safely experience some of the activities firefighters perform. Captain Silvio Rodríguez, a member of the K42 unit, explained that the goal is to offer a glimpse into the demanding and often dangerous work firefighters undertake in real emergencies.

The kids will feel like, so to speak, firefighters for a day, for a few hours. The intention is to show on a small scale and safely some of the tasks that firefighters usually perform, which involve a high level of danger in real situations.

Participants can look forward to a variety of engaging activities, including a zip line, water-based games, and simulated fire extinguishing exercises. These playful simulations are crafted to be both exciting and informative, giving children a hands-on understanding of firefighting tasks. The day will also include shared meals and other special treats prepared for the young attendees.

Captain Rodríguez emphasized that beyond the fun, the event serves a crucial purpose: strengthening the bond between the firefighters and the public. By opening their doors in this interactive way, the K42 unit hopes to foster greater community engagement and promote awareness about fire prevention. The firefighters regularly conduct training in various institutions, aiming to reduce accidents and incidents.
