Chile Defeats Hong Kong China 38-17 in Nations Cup Rugby

The Chilean national rugby team, known as Los Cóndores, secured a decisive 38-17 victory over Hong Kong China in their second match of the Nations Cup.

The game, held at the Sausalito Stadium in Viña del Mar, saw both teams, already qualified for the 2027 Rugby World Cup, compete in the tournament that runs parallel to the Championship of Nations. Chile, currently ranked seventeenth globally, achieved their second win in this event, positioning them at the top of Group A, which comprises teams from the Americas and the Pacific.

Chile opened the scoring with a penalty try in the ninth minute, followed by a converted try from Iñaki Gurruchaga, establishing an early lead. Despite Hong Kong China's efforts to close the gap with tries from Alexander Post and Jack Combes, Chile maintained a 19-17 advantage by halftime, with further scores from Raimundo Martínez and Santiago Videla.

In the second half, Los Cóndores extended their lead with two seven-point plays and a final try from Nicolás Saab, sealing the 38-17 victory. Martínez scored his second try of the match, complemented by scores from Marcelo Torrealba and Videla. This win sets Chile up for their final match of the first window against Georgia on July 18.
