Chile Storm Leaves 2 Dead, Over 2,000 Stranded by Floods

Chile is grappling with the aftermath of a powerful storm that battered its central and southern regions, leading to significant flooding and claiming at least two lives.

Authorities reported that two individuals died when a tree fell onto their vehicle in the Los Rios region. The National Service for Disaster Prevention and Response indicated that nearly 350 people have been injured or suffered property damage. More critically, over 2,000 individuals are stranded, primarily because rivers have overflowed their banks.

In response to the escalating crisis, 13 evacuation alerts have been issued. These warnings are due to the combination of flooding and strong winds, with gusts exceeding 100 kilometers per hour. Several municipalities in the Maule and Los Lagos regions are also under alert.

This recent event follows a devastating storm in July that caused extensive destruction across Chile, resulting in 13 deaths and damage to at least 4,000 homes. The recurring severe weather highlights the vulnerability of the affected areas.
