Chile weather: Light rain for Santiago, fierce winds for southern regions

Chileans in Santiago and Valparaíso can expect light rain on Thursday, according to meteorologist Arnaldo Zúñiga of the Chilean Meteorological Directorate (DMC). He told Cooperativa that while a few drops might fall in the early morning and afternoon, rainfall totals are unlikely to exceed 3 to 5 millimeters.

More significant rainfall, between 10 and 20 millimeters, is forecast from Maule to Biobío, which are considered normal amounts for these regions. However, the primary concern for these areas and further south will be strong winds. Zúñiga explained that a low-pressure system approaching from La Araucanía to Aysén will bring winds gusting up to 100 kilometers per hour, particularly in Aysén. Other regions will experience winds between 80 and 100 km/h.

Even Maule and Biobío will not be entirely free of wind, with coastal and precordillera sectors expecting average speeds of 40 to 60 km/h and gusts up to 70 km/h. Meanwhile, the northern part of the country is expected to remain dry for the next five days. Some inland areas in the Huasco Province will see rising temperatures, and the Coquimbo region can anticipate cloudy days.
