China Airlines waives fees, offers free transport for Kumamoto earthquake relief

In response to the powerful magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck Kumamoto Prefecture in Japan, China Airlines has announced measures to support affected passengers and aid relief efforts.

The airline is waiving all fees for ticket changes and cancellations for flights to and from Kumamoto. Passengers holding tickets for travel before August 5, 2026, can rebook their flights to Fukuoka or Kagoshima within 14 days without penalty. Customers can contact their original travel agency or China Airlines' customer service for assistance.

Beyond passenger support, China Airlines is extending its assistance to disaster relief. The airline will provide free transportation for relief supplies to the affected region until the end of August. This initiative aims to facilitate the delivery of essential goods and support the recovery efforts in Kumamoto.

The earthquake, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon, registered a maximum seismic intensity of 7, the highest level on Japan's scale, with its epicenter located in Kumamoto at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers. China Airlines is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with relevant authorities and organizations to ensure the effective delivery of aid.
