China Reaffirms Support for Iran Amid Mideast Tensions

China has firmly backed Iran's stance on current Middle East conditions, with Foreign Minister Wang Yi stating that Beijing supports Tehran's efforts to maintain national sovereignty, security, and dignity. The two nations' top diplomats met on Friday in Kyrgyzstan on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) foreign ministers' meeting.

As a comprehensive strategic partner, China firmly supports Iran in safeguarding its national sovereignty, security, and dignity.

Wang Yi expressed China's deep concern over the recent escalation of tensions in the Persian Gulf region. He emphasized that a memorandum of understanding signed over a month ago, representing the aspirations of the Iranian and Middle Eastern people for peace and stability, should not be abandoned. He stressed that the door to negotiations must remain open as long as there is hope for peace, and that parties should adhere to the agreed-upon memorandum.

The memorandum of understanding signed more than a month ago is a valuable result of mediation and negotiation efforts by various parties. The understanding contains the hopes of the Iranian and Middle Eastern people to stop the war and create peace and stability, so the efforts made should not be in vain.

China plans to uphold President Xi Jinping's four-point proposal for maintaining and advancing peace and stability in the Middle East. Beijing will continue to support mediation efforts by Pakistan and other parties, aiming to expedite the resumption of dialogue and negotiations among relevant parties to address issues in the Strait of Hormuz. Wang Yi also stated that China encourages improved relations among neighboring countries and will work towards formulating collective security for Gulf states to contribute to the region's swift restoration of peace and tranquility.
