China reopens road to Kerung border, allowing heavy rescue equipment into disaster zone

A road blocked by water near the Kerung border has reopened, clearing a path for heavy machinery and wider rescue operations in the disaster-affected area.

China said the route connecting the Kerung border point with Rasuwagadhi in Nepal fully resumed operation at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Chinese media reported that rescue workers, relief supplies, equipment and heavy machinery could now reach the main affected areas by road.

Road-clearing work has advanced into the core disaster zone, where search-and-rescue teams are working through coordinated efforts using multiple methods. CCTV footage showed the final blocked stretch temporarily reopened, allowing heavy machinery to pass.

The machinery clearing the national highway near the main affected area has also moved close to the main building at the Chinese-side Kerung border facility.
