Chosun University professor donates body for medical education

Kim Jong-joong, an honorary professor at Chosun University's College of Medicine, has donated his body to the university to support the education of future medical professionals. His family has also contributed 30 million won to the university, honoring his final wishes.

Professor Kim dedicated 39 years of his life, from 1974 to 2016, to teaching and researching anatomy at Chosun University. He also served as the 58th president of the Korean Association of Anatomists, significantly contributing to the advancement of anatomical research in South Korea. During his tenure at the university, he held various leadership positions, including chairman of the Professors' Council and dean of the Graduate School of Public Health. He also led the Institute for the Study of Democratization Movement in 2007.

Professor Kim's noble act will be remembered for a long time in the hearts of our university and students as the teachings of a true mentor, reminding us of the dignity of life and the responsibilities of medical professionals.

Chosun University announced that it will allocate Professor Kim's final donation to enhance its anatomy education and research facilities and to support the construction of the new Chosun University Hospital. This is not the first time Professor Kim has shown his commitment to the university; in 2017, after receiving a liver transplant at Chosun University Hospital, he donated 10 million won as a token of gratitude to the medical staff and the hospital.

University President Kim Chun-seong expressed his deep gratitude, stating, "Professor Kim's noble act will be remembered for a long time in the hearts of our university and students as the teachings of a true mentor, reminding us of the dignity of life and the responsibilities of medical professionals." He added, "The university will deeply engrave the meaning of his wishes and diligently carry them forward to ensure they are faithfully reflected in the development of anatomy education, research, and Chosun University Hospital."
