CHP District Leaders Resign En Masse, Join NEW Party in Turkey

A wave of resignations is sweeping through the Republican People's Party (CHP) as district leaders and members defect to the newly formed NEW Party. Most recently, the CHP district chairmen of Mut and Silifke, along with their respective management and women's branch executive board members, have officially resigned from the CHP.

Speaking outside the CHP Mut District headquarters, District Chairman Günay declared their non-recognition of Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu as the party's leader following what they termed an "absolute annulment decision." Günay stated that the Mut District Management has consistently voiced this stance. He announced their collective decision, made in response to NEW Party Chairman Özgür Özel's call at a recent group meeting, to join the NEW Party.

We, as the Mut District Management, have not hesitated to state that we do not recognize Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who took the presidential seat with the annulment decision, as our president.

Günay emphasized their desire to "stand on the correct side of history" and align with the NEW Party, which he described as the "hope of Turkey" under Özgür Özel's leadership. The departing members include executive board members, alternate executive board members, and numerous party faithful.

Following the decision we made with our party members, in response to our Chairman Özgür Özel's call at the last group meeting for everyone to join the NEW Party, the District Chairman and Management Board members, alternate Management Board members, and Women's Branch Management Board members, along with many party members, we are resigning from our Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi membership to stand on the correct side of history and come together in the NEW Party, which has become the hope of Turkey and whose chairman is Özgür Özel.

Similarly, Silifke District Chairman Zarif Korkmaz announced her departure from the CHP with her executive board members. Korkmaz asserted her lifelong commitment to the will of the people and standing firm. She rejected what she called a "comfortable and controlled political approach" operating "under the shadow of the palace judiciary."

Korkmaz quoted NEW Party Chairman Özgür Özel, stating, "Standing by the will of the nation, listening to the voice of the nation is a responsibility for the country." She concluded by asserting that "hope never runs out for those who stand by the truth."
