CHP moves towards extraordinary convention amid 'conspiracy' claims

Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) convened an extraordinary Central Executive Committee (MYK) meeting, signaling a significant internal political maneuver. Following the meeting, party spokesperson Zeynel Emre announced that the party is initiating steps towards an extraordinary convention.

Emre described the party's current situation as facing a "conspiracy process" and emphasized the need to strategize on how to overcome these challenges with the support of the public. He linked the perceived attacks on the party and its elected leader, Özgür Özel, to the CHP's independent foreign policy stance and its opposition to what he termed the government's service to the "Greater Middle East Project."

We evaluated the conspiracy process that the Republican People's Party is in, that it has fallen into. How we get out of here, by which path, by which methods we will fend off these conspiracies together with our people, we discussed this.

The spokesperson asserted that the party's leader, Özgür Özel, became a target due to his efforts to promote Turkey's independence and pursue a foreign policy aligned with Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's vision. Emre specifically criticized the current administration's alleged alignment with the Greater Middle East Project and its handling of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, contrasting it with the CHP's vocal opposition and activism.

We know that there is a Greater Middle East Project here, and there is a government that serves that Greater Middle East Project.

Emre further alleged that the ruling AKP party's judicial branches collaborated with internal elements within the CHP, referred to as "nullity branches," to orchestrate this conspiracy. He framed the party's recent successes, including its first-place finish in local elections and its refusal to become a "lapdog opposition," as catalysts for these alleged retaliatory actions.
