Chris Brown pleads guilty to London club brawl charge

American R&B singer Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to affray, a public order offense, stemming from a 2023 nightclub altercation in London. The plea, entered Friday at Southwark Crown Court, resolves the case and removes the threat of trial on more serious allegations, including attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

Brown, 37, stood in court and responded "Guilty" when the charge was read. Prosecutors indicated that the additional charges, which he had previously denied, would be formally dropped later. The incident occurred on February 19, 2023, at Tape, an exclusive private members' club in London, during Brown's UK tour.

Prosecutors alleged that a man was struck with a bottle during the confrontation before being chased and assaulted. The alleged victim, also charged in connection with the incident, pleaded guilty to affray and will be sentenced alongside Brown. The singer has been on £5 million bail since his arrest in May 2025 at a Manchester hotel shortly after arriving in the UK. He spent nearly a week in custody before being released.

Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, Judge Tony Baumgartner permitted Brown to continue his scheduled tour, which commenced in June in Amsterdam. Brown, known for hits like "Run It!" and "No Air," remains a prominent R&B artist, though his career has been marked by numerous legal controversies.
