Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ nears 10 million admissions after five weeks at No. 1

Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” is closing in on the 10 million-admission mark in South Korea after dominating the box office for five weeks.

The film sold 393,918 tickets on the latest reported day, according to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing network. Its cumulative audience reached 8,864,959, and it has remained No. 1 at the box office for 26 days since opening.

Its weekend performance has been just as strong. From the 28th through the 30th, the film attracted 1,058,636 viewers over three days, taking the overall weekend box-office crown for a fourth consecutive week.

That made “The Odyssey” the third locally released film this year to achieve four straight weekend victories, after “The Man Who Lives with the King” and “The Colony.” It is the first foreign film to set the record.

Now in its fifth week, the movie held a 63.8% share of advance bookings, with 275,859 tickets already reserved. At that pace, it could pass 9 million admissions during the week and remain within reach of the 10 million mark. The film is still screening in theaters.
