Duksung Women’s University and Uzbek Embassy Agree to Expand Academic Exchange

A sports exchange at Duksung Women’s University led to a formal partnership with the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Seoul, covering academic research, education and student exchange.

The university signed the memorandum of understanding on Aug. 29 with Uzbek Ambassador Alisher Abdusalomov. The agreement followed an international kurash tournament held on campus that day, where ambassadors from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Russia, Pakistan, Mongolia and Belarus attended the opening events.

Duksung said the partnership creates a basis for expanding cooperation with Uzbek universities and other Central Asian institutions. The two sides agreed to promote Duksung’s Korean-language and degree programs to students in Uzbekistan. They will also pursue joint research in education, culture, language, information technology, economics and social sciences, while leaving room for additional cooperation through further discussions.

This agreement is a meaningful starting point for expanding international exchange that began through sports into the university’s core areas of education, research and student exchange.

Kang Jun-sang, a professor in the university’s leisure sports department, helped connect the university and the embassy through his international sports networks. He serves as head of South Korea’s national cheerleading team and vice president of the Kurash Federation. The university also highlighted a Disney World internship program organized by Kang and his interest in expanding overseas opportunities for students.

Duksung President Min Jae-hong said the agreement represented a starting point for extending sports-based international exchange into the university’s core areas of education, research and student mobility. He said the university would work to strengthen academic ties with Uzbek institutions and create opportunities for students from both countries to understand each other’s cultures and build global skills.
